What if Peter Twittered?

TwitterI came across a post awhile back entitled “What if Peter Twittered.” I thought it was worth sharing as it’s both humorous as well as a thought provoking way to take a look at what the heck was going through Peter’s mind during his time with Jesus.

And…shameless promotion – if you’re interested you can follow me on twitter by clicking HERE

You can also follow our college ministry, College Life, on twitter by clicking HERE

Here’s the post I was talking about above:

⁃ Just met this guy named Jesus–He changed my name, interesting…wonder what else He’s going to try and change?

⁃ Holy smoke…just landed a HUGE catch of fish by doing what this Rabbi said.

⁃ Just left the family business to follow Jesus–this guy captivates me.

⁃ Today Jesus fed over 5,000 men with a kids happy meal…and even multiplied the surprise!

⁃ Walked on water today for a little while–Thomas doubted whether or not I could and Judas was giving four to one odds on me drowning.

⁃ YEAH…I got it right! Jesus is the Messiah…He encouraged me.

⁃ Jesus just called me satan…I am thinking I got something wrong.

⁃ Trying to sleep…I think Jesus is praying over there…

⁃ Just cut a guys ear off, Jesus fixed it–no problem.

⁃ I think it’s over–He’s dead.

⁃ I think we’re next!

⁃ I think somethings happening…He’s not in the tomb.

⁃ He’s alive–he just walked through a flippin’ wall!

⁃ It’s ON–He just did that fish catching thing again!

⁃ He just said something about having all authority–after what I just saw…I believe it!

⁃ Just preached my first public sermon, 3,000 people received Christ…was waterlogged after the baptism service.

⁃ Two people lied about the offering today – God killed them for it – giving increase 462% afterwards.

Well, Peter didn’t Twitter…but we do get to read about him in Matthew, Mark, Luke & John and his journey with Jesus.

Don’t pray enough? Have a web service pray for you!

Picture-19I’m a little late rolling this guy out – he caught caught behind some other blog posts but…

I came across this article first covered over at TechCrunch and essentially it is a website for “digital prayers”

You essentially pay informationageprayer.com to pray for you.

Here’s the info from their site:

Information Age Prayer is a subscription service utilizing a computer with text-to-speech capability to incant your prayers each day. It gives you the satisfaction of knowing that your prayers will always be said even if you wake up late, or forget.

We use state of the art text to speech synthesizers to voice each prayer at a volume and speed equivalent to typical person praying. Each prayer is voiced individually, with the name of the subscriber displayed on screen.

At Information Age Prayer we think our service should be used like a prayer supplement, to extend and strengthen a subscriber’s connection with God. Traditional prayer is an integral part of this connection and should never be forgone, even after signing up.

You can subscribe for yourself, or you can purchase a subscription as a gift to friends or family.

And don’t forget to check out their plug for children:

If your children don’t pray anymore sign them up for one of the many daily prayers available for each religion (click categories at the left). You may also want to have a prayer said for them directly. The prayer for children is the cheapest Information Age Prayer service at only $1.99 a Month. Pray for a child here.

Please tell me that I am dreaming – why do we do this to ourselves????

Pocket God

Pocket-God

I generally try to stay away from the lists that can be found in the iTunes store because I always end up buying stuff that I don’t really want or need but I do because it is sitting next to that number 1 on a list.

But…

Today I was looking a the top paid apps and one caught my attention – it’s called “Pocket God.”

Here’s what the creators have to say about the app:

“What kind of god would you be? Benevolent or vengeful? Play Pocket God and discover the answer within yourself. On a remote island, you are the all-powerful god that rules over the primitive islanders. You can bring new life, and then take it away just as quickly. Exercise your powers on the islanders. Lift them in the air, alter gravity, hit them with lightning, the possibilities are endless.”

Obviously I had to keep some of my typical gag reflexes in check as I got past the first sentence of the games explanation but in the end – one question stuck in my head. If an app like this is on a top ten list of apps then it shows us that the culture is fascinated with the “concept” of God but aren’t really interested in following Him.

Caught Sleeping on the Job??

Bld078063Ever got caught sleeping during the job and needed something to say but had nothing on hand? Me too…

These are for those occasions where you take a trip with the college group or youth group and give it your all and then you are due back in class or work that next Monday and your boss, who already thinks your a slacker, comes strolling by…

Figured I would lend a helping hand!

But…I didn’t come up with these – I jotted them down once and forgot where I got them so feel free to use!

7. “They told me at the blood bank this might happen.”

6. “Whew! Guess I left the top off the dry erase board marker.”

5. “This is one of the seven habits of highly effective people!”

4. “Rats! Why did you interrupt me? I had almost figured out a solution to our biggest problem.”

3. “Boy, that cold medicine I took last night just won’t wear off!”

2. “I wasn’t sleeping…I was trying to pick up my contact lens without using my hands.”

And the last but not least, though it is my favorite:

1. “Amen”

Have fun – stay awake – I mean errr…nevermind…

Twitter to singles

Here’s what’s going across the twitter wire with regards to singles:

  • Singles – have you ever considered praying that God would literally shape the eyes of your future mate to love exactly who you are?
  • Singles – have you ever asked Him to shape the mind of your future mate to compliment and complete you instead of mimic you?
  • Single men – pony up and ask a girl out.
  • Single men – treat all single ladies with respect and lead her towards God and not towards sin.
  • Single men – quit hanging with girls one on one that you have no intention of pursuing just to get your emotional fix
  • Single men – ACT LIKE A MAN and not a middle schooler…
  • Single ladies – quit thinking that just because a guy asked you out that he wants to marry you – just stop that!
  • Single ladies – stop rejecting date offers from guys just because God didn’t put a big sign over him that says, “This is THE one!”

Good stuff…

I want one of these!

Amazon.Com Kindle 2 Amazon S New Wireless Reading Device (Latest Generation) Kindle Store

I know I shouldn’t want one these new Amazon Kindles – but I do. And yes, I remember that one of my resolutions for this year was to spend less money and at $350 a pop that does not qualify as spending less money.

But here’s the thing. I love to read. I do – I have TONS of books. I have TONS of books in waiting to read.

So the question that should be asked is – how does the kindle help me read. That’s the thing – it doesn’t necessarily help me read – it just helps me read more at less cost. All the books are cheaper for the kindle. It has 3G connectivity – the purchases are always mine and backed up on amazon.com. I can still make notes, book mark pages, and underline sections. But – instead of carrying the three books that I am simultaneously reading in my backpack – I just have to carry this little guy. And – it’s environmentally friendly!

Come on – buy my rational!

The sad part is – I did the math. The average savings per book on kindle over print is $4 – that means I finally make up the cost on my 90th book. And 90 books at $9.99 is almost a grand of reading and that…well…is not spending less.

But it is cool to see where technology is headed.

Digital Segregation?

Blackbird-Screen

I’m not so sure what to think about this but apparently the new thing is “race” based browsers.

I just stumbled across the browser titled, “Blackbird,” which is branded exclusively for African Americans.

Here’s what the website says about the browser:

“Blackbird is the web browser for the African American community. Blackbird was developed by a team of African Americans to allow you to connect to what’s going on in the African American community”

Now granted, I understand that we naturally gravitate to our “niche” communities. We hang out with, socialize with, and essentially live life closest with people who are like us – I get it. And…I won’t lie – it bothers me A-LOT, but I get it.

However…

Just because that’s the natural flow of life – I’m not so sure that embracing segregation is the right answer either. I’ve always found it interesting that the big push is to desegregate but yet, especially online communities, we find more ways to continue segregating us then to desegregate us. Not only that but it’s sorta funny when people of different “niche” communities get mad at each other because the other community doesn’t understand them. No kidding – maybe its because you chose to segregate yourself.

I don’t know – but thought it was worth mentioning.

Pope Warns Against too much Facebook!

FacebookYou heard it right – the Pope has finally put his foot down and said, “hey, don’t get carried away with that stuff!”

And…

I think he’s got a good point – when we start replacing real life relationships and connections with internet connections, something is not right…

Here’s his quote exactly:

“The concept of friendship has enjoyed a renewed prominence in the vocabulary of the new digital social networks that have emerged in the last few years. The concept is one of the noblest achievements of human culture. … We should be careful, therefore, never to trivialise the concept or the experience of friendship. It would be sad if our desire to sustain and develop on-line friendships were to be at the cost of our availability to engage with our families, our neighbours and those we meet in the daily reality of our places of work, education and recreation. If the desire for virtual connectedness becomes obsessive, it may in fact function to isolate individuals from real social interaction while also disrupting the patterns of rest, silence and reflection that are necessary for healthy human development.”

8 Unusual College Scholarships

Here’s one for the OU posse out there! I remember when I was in college always keeping my eye out for those random scholarships out there that I might be able to get just because no one else knew about them…

So when I came across this post, I had to re-post it!

Click the LINK and check them all out but to give you an incentive – here are my top three favorites:

Duck Callers

Top prize is $1500 in scholarship money, so if you’ve got a knack for calling ducks I say you’ve got nothing to lose but your dignity and some airfare to Arkansas (doesn’t really surprise me that this is held in Arkansas).

Unique Prom Attire

You’ve heard it said – “You can do anything with duct tape.” Well…now is your chance to prove it. The good people who have graced us with the magical essence of Duct Tape now will give you and your date $3000 each if you fashion your prom attire out of…you guessed it…duct tape.

You have to provide proof that you actually wore the attire to the dance too!

Twins Who Don’t Hate Each Other

All kinds of twins scholarships out there – assuming that you made it through the first half of your life liking each other because most of them require both of you enrolling at the same place. Man…maybe I should hope to one day be the father of twins…wait…I didn’t say that – I take it back!!!

Here’s the LINK one more time if you want to check out the rest of the 8 unusual scholarships out there!

Community Outreach + Free Starbucks!

Blog Starbucks

Just stumbled on THIS today thanks to DIGG and I almost couldn’t believe my eyes because it is just pure GENIUS on Starucks part.

If you haven’t read “Pour Your Heart in It” by Howard Shultz then you may not know that Starbucks truly desires to be that third place in your life – home, work, Starbucks.

So what better way to show its devotion to the community then by telling you to pick up a cup of joe when you do 5 hours of community service. Makes me like Starbucks all the more right now…

Not only will they give you a cup of java for doing five hours of service but they will even help you find ways to serve right there in your own community.

On the flipside – while I applaud Starbucks effort to get people involved in helping their communities, there is also that side of me that is kinda of saddened that it has to take a free cup of coffee to get people to volunteer in their communities…

Dusty images…

Art 06For those of you who know me – you probably know that I have a thing for cool art and photography. I am more of a “modern art” guy – love colors, love abstract stuff, etc.

Because of this – I keep my eyes on a couple of sites that help me stay creative in picture taking and other forms of creativity.

Really, all that has nothing to do with this post other than letting you know a little more about me and…

The fact that I saw these cool artworks…

Couple of guys that blow dust on cars and then draw in the dust. Pretty sweet. Be sure and check it out…

Tribute to Steve Jobs

With Steve Jobs officially taking a leave of absence from Apple due to some medical issues – I figured I would put a little plug in my blog as a shout out to the fella that changed my life – not just with computers (currently sporting the macbook pro) but how I engage the world (ie iphone baby)

I bookmarked this little audio blurb that Steve made back in the day about Microsoft. It’s short short and sweet and not too far off the mark.

That’s right, I am a mac user.

Hit the LINKY for the audio clip.
